Valentine’s Day is a celebration of love. What better way to show love to family, friends, and a special someone than with a collection of heart-shaped macarons! The macaron flavor combinations I created were chocolate strawberry, rosewater raspberry, and rose white chocolate. The macarons were a hit and enjoyed by all.
Chocolate Strawberry Macarons
Strawberries dipped in chocolate look and taste like valentines. This is my take on this Valentine’s Day classic. To intensify the strawberry flavor, I simmered strawberry preserves for 20 minutes and let cool. To flavor the macaron shells, I added three tablespoons of the concentrated strawberry jell as I was folding the macaronage. The filling is a circle of dark chocolate ganache with a center of the strawberry jell.
A Valentine Haiku:
strawberries are red
chocolate so dark and rich
how can you resist
Rosewater Raspberry Macarons
Heart-shaped rosewater raspberry macarons. Rosewater was added to the macaronage to flavor the shells. The Italian buttercream filling was flavored with raspberry preserves.
Rose White Chocolate Macarons
Heart-shaped rose white chocolate macarons. The shells were flavored with rosewater. The filling was a white chocolate ganache with the addition of rosewater. With the added liquid, the ganache required twenty four hours in the refrigerator to set, but it was worth the wait. A special flavor for a special Valentine’s Day .
I enjoy any excuse to make macarons and try different flavors. Creating the strawberries dipped chocolate macarons was very rewarding to me. Also, this is the first time I made a design with the macaron shell, definitely a learning experience.
Stay tuned for the next stop in the macaron journey.
