About me

I am an obstetrician and gynecologist by day and an amateur baker by night.  I have baked breads and the occasional pastry for many years but with work, family, and life it was an infrequent event.  However, I always enjoyed the process and meditative qualities that is required to be a successful baker.

As I discussed in my first blog post, The Macaron Journey Begins, I was asked by my daughter-in-law to make macarons for my granddaughter’s first birthday.  I used the basic macaron recipe in the Bouchon Bakery cookbook and with beginner’s luck they were a success.   After that I was humbled by the little macaron with the next four attempts being near failures.  I stepped back and took the time to learn about ingredients, humidity, the macaronage, and the proper temperature and cooking time for my oven.  Creating and trying new flavors for the macaron shell and filling has been exciting and adds to my enjoyment of the process.  Now I am able to produce a consistent macarons to share with family and friends.  I hope you enjoy following my macaron journey.
